SECRETS of an ACCIDENTAL DUCHESS (click the link to see the full review and cast your positive vote) by Jennifer Haymore is so romantic and inspirational to anyone that feels like the one family member that brings the other ones down. Sister’s are wonderful and supportive and the Donovan sisters are always covering everyone’s back. My sister’s are both helpful and downright irritating but never fail to amuse that is for sure.

But now let’s talk to Jennifer Haymore….

Every day I believe we need to celebrate our Little Victories of which you have had many. What one thing has happened recently that you are celebrating? One thing that has happened was that my short story, ONCE UPON A WICKED night (Donovan Sisters, book 1.5) was selected to be one of the launch books for my publisher’s new ebook line, Forever Yours. There were press releases in the New York Times and USA Today, and it was so exciting to see my name in both of those places!

Is it difficult to manage the writing and family life? Yes. I am insanely busy, and I always seem to have about 100 balls in the air. Occasionally I drop one, but I try really hard not to. Still, there’s only so many balls one human being can juggle at one time, you know.

Do the locations you write about inspire your characters in any way? Yes. I love locations, and my favorite two places to write about are: (1) Anywhere in the United Kingdom; and (2) Anywhere tropical.

Fortunately, I got to do both in the Donovan sisters series--the Donovan sisters were raised in Antigua but are now in London. It was a location dream for me, and my characters always come out shaped by the locations surrounding them.

What happens when you most unbelievable dreams come true?

Olivia does not want to be treated like a china doll on a shelf and the minute she meets Max, her wishes for adventure may come true.

Max never thinks of Olivia as frail or less than perfect, he sees her beauty and yearns to place a gentle hand on Olivia’s beautiful face. Max is more than interested in Olivia and the ridiculous bet he made to win her affection have nothing to do with his intention. Being competitive has made Max strong but the mere sight of Olivia astounds him and there is no amount of compensation for that reward.

When Olivia chooses adventure over sedentary the game she and Max begin to play is dangerous with severe consequences. Olivia throws care to the wind and goes after the one thing she has always wanted and feared she would never have intimacy. Her life is too set in one direction, shifting the sand is going to be fun.

With all the joy in the forefront, neither Max nor Olivia could see the darkness right behind them. The entire Donovan family is taking on a mad, cruel man bent on ruining Olivia just because it will hurt Max. When both of them are shocked with the severity of this man’s vendetta Max and Olivia wonder who will come to the rescue of these two lost souls.

Jennifer Haymore writes intriguing, detail orientated stories wrapped around the most glorious depths that is the romance of love. The scenarios and details that Ms. Haymore creates make every reader feel as if they too are being held captive by the magic that is the blush of true love.

I had the privilege of visiting Paris four times when I lived near Maastricht, Nederlands. The four hour drive made it an easy weekend escape. Because I appreciate Paris, I jumped at the opportunity to review Amy Thomas' PARIS, MY SWEET - I posted my review on Goodreads at this link. Amy joins me for a cozy chat about the City of Lights ...

Kim: Can you remember your first "delight" in Paris - whether is was a special sight or sweet treat?

Amy: My first “delight” memory is actually a bit odd: it was on my very first day as a college junior. I went to Paris for a semester abroad and, until we found housing, we were staying at a really simple hotel. I remember lying down for a nap and hearing a siren outside. [beh-naaaaaah! beh-naaaaaah! beh-naaaaah!] It was so unlike American sirens—it sounded so foreign. I lied there, smiling, feeling in my bones that there I was: in Paris! I still love that little memory…

7th arrondissement

Kim: I recently viewed an episode of House Hunters International (on HGTV) where a Dallas Native moved to Paris. She looked for apartments in the 7th arrondissement. Where did you live and what attracted you to that neighborhood?

Amy: I was open to several neighborhoods, from the up-and-coming ninth arrondissement, where lots of great restaurants have emerged in recent years, to the infinitely charming, though tourist-clogged, Marais. In the end, I found the perfect apartment and location: a six-floor walk-up in the second arrondissement, just around the corner from the amazing market street, rue Montorgueil. Imagine having dozens of boulangeries, fromageries, boucheries, poissoneries, cafes, fleuristes and chocolatiers just outside your front door. The sights, smells and energy were absolutely intoxicating.

Kim: Let's talk sweets - what is your absolutely favorite? Where is you "go to place" in Paris and New York to satisfy your craving? Where is you "go to place" in both cities to soak up the culture/scenery?

Amy: This is like asking a mother who her favorite child is. C’est pas si simple! In Paris, I developed an obsession with this sweet brioche chockfull of candied almonds and crushed hazelnuts with caramelized edges from the chocolatier Pralus called the Praluline. It was heaven. I also loved going to Stohrer, as much for the history interior as the pain aux raisins and exquisite cakes. Beyond that, a Nutella street crepe never fails to make me happy.

My must-have sweets in New York are peanut butter cookies from City Bakery, bread pudding from the Dessert Truck, an occasional cupcake from Billy’s, Sugar Sweet Sunshine or Butter Lane. I also love anything that the pastry chef Pichet Ong creates.

Kim: It is a common "myth" that the French do not like Americans. That was not our experience working at NATO nor during our visits to Paris, including the tourist traps. Since you are more like a NY-Paris commuter, what's your perception on the French-American love-hate relationship?

Amy: I see it as more of a love-love relationship. Sure, in both Paris and New York, you have grumps and rude people. If you come in contact with one of them, it taints your perspective of the entire culture. But each city has far more friendly people who are willing to point you in the right direction and help in any way they can.

Kim: What's next for Amy Thomas, international traveler, chocolate lover, and food writer?

Amy: A-ha, the million-dollar question! I’m actually trying to figure it out myself. This book was such a long time in the making, such a labor of love, that it’s hard to imagine an equally satisfying project. But whatever I do next, I would love for it to involve food and travel. Perhaps I’ll keep the Paris-New York theme alive. But maybe my cravings will take me somewhere wonderfully new…

WELCOME to Grand Central Forever’s Paranormal Tour with Kendra Leigh Castle and her book MIDNIGHT RECKONING as well as Kristen Callihan and her book FIRELIGHT.

This is the first book for Kristen Callihan and her response to my question was what makes me love authors. They are genuine and so awe struck by getting published when in fact they should be saying “see what a great writer I am”?

So my question to Kristen was - Do you feel the energy from your fan base? I am, in fact, still trying to wrap my head around the fact that I have this amazing thing called a “fan base”! But yes, I definitely feel the energy and enthusiasm from my readers, and it’s such a gift. One of the best things about this job is getting to create stories that resonate with people the way the books on my keeper shelf resonated with me. My readers are the coolest group of people—every time I talk to one of them I end up smiling. And suddenly there seem to be a lot more of them! I’m grateful to every single person who’s picked up a book of mine simply for giving it a chance…and thrilled that my stories have captured some imaginations.

We should all remember what it was like to be the new kid on the block or a fresh face in school. It is exciting, scary, and a wonderful adventure we need to take but not sure how it will turn out. I see for success for this great Paranormal Combination.

Hawaii Five O fans were winners Monday night with a new episode, Mai Ka Wa Kahinko. The plot could have borrowed the title from Mary's blog post yesterday, LITTLE GIRL GONE. Danno's former partner, out of prison and bent on revenge, kidnaps Grace. This episode gave Scott Caan the opportunity to truly demonstrate his wide range of emotions as a tormented father.

We also had some eye candy along the way:

- Opening sequence takes place aboard Hawaiian Airlines inbound to Honolulu. It is my airline of choice when flying to the mainland. The cabin is comfortable, the crew is friendly, and the prices are competitive. I recommend anyone coming to Hawaii to fly Southwest (or another budget airline) to Las Vegas or the West Coast to catch a flight on Hawaiian Airlines.

- The show cuts to Steve and Lori climbing up the Koko Head stairs. Koko Head rises on the east side of Honolulu, near Hawaii Kai and Hanauma Bay. The trail follows an abandoned World War II-era railroad track straight up the side of Koko Crater. Here is a link to a local's perspective of "nature's stairmaster."

Luckily, we are entering the February sweeps, so we can expect more new episodes. For May sweeps, all the news outlets are buzzing that NCIS: LA will come to Hawaii followed by Hawaii Five O going to LA for a two night "high octane" drama.*

* Hawaii Five O and NCIS: LA may be on the same network but they have different producers. No doubt CBS suggested the crossover. This crossover reminds me of two NBC dramas that crossed over - can you name the shows? I'll give you a hint - one show was filmed in Baltimore and the other in NYC. The cross over was successful that one character from the Baltimore series joined the spin off from the NYC series. I'll publish the answer on Thursday.

LITTLE GIRL GONE (click link here for review and your ability to vote) is a read that is as disturbing as it is compelling. You are drawn in by the telling of this story from what is really a child who made numerous bad decisions. Medora sees her life as over when tragedy strikes her family and feels that no one cares about her anymore. So when a man enters her life and offers her love and companionship she runs to follow him.

What is sad about this book is the reality of all these young boys and girls that feel there truly are no hope and no place to help them. School is not a place for peace it produces as much agony as everywhere else. I am sure the drama of being young does not help at all since everything is so horrible when you are 15 years old. I always told my kids to hang on I swear it will get better you just need a few more years to realize that.

LITTLE GIRL GONE by Drusilla Campbell

01/12 - Grand Central Publishing - Trade, 320 pages

Will we know when our salvation has arrived?

Medora Welles makes a number of life altering decisions one worse than the last. She finds herself at the age of 17 going with a man she thought was her salvation. Willis came to her in the darkest moment of her life and provided a light to freedom.

What Medora viewed as freedom was anything less than imprisonment but she never saw it as anything but a man loving her too much. Even when another woman is forced to live as a prisoner Medora still believes everything Willis tells her. Willis has dreams for them, goals of lofty aspirations, and life beyond the isolated dump they are presently living in. Willis repeatedly tells Medora he is saving her and working to save the woman, he currently holds prisoner.

Through the love of a dog and the curiosity of a 12 year-old boy Medora starts to question her life and the choices she has made. She now sees that beyond not being her guardian angel Willis may in fact be the exact opposite. How do you escape from the hell that is your life if you have nowhere to go and feel there is no one who cares about you? For Medora she may have someone that is missing her, and there is someone who wants to help her escape. The question going through her mind is after all these years does she even remember her name.

This book is such a compelling read that you have to keep reading to see how everything turns out. The story is one that has you looking around at every stranger wondering if there is some secret lurking in that person’s life.

I am all about the games leading up to the Super Bowl and less about the final game. I really have no preference who wins I just want New England to lose since them made the Rams look so bad when they played us.

But I hope your team of choice wins and that if you are going to a party it is a great one.

This week flew by and every time I say that or talk about the weather I remind myself that is what my mother always does. Work is fabulous and another week of being happy working for a great boss with co-workers who appreciate you. I hope everyone has allot of that and since I have not had it for awhile I am truly thankful for it.

Lots of great books coming this week plus author Heather Snow is coming to St. Louis for a book signing - woo hoo! When you start a Stephanie Laurens book you have every expectation that it is going to fabulous. With THE CAPTURE of the EARL of GLENCRAE the 3^rd book in the Cynster Sisters series you are taken far beyond fabulous right into unbelievable. With a couple like Dominic and Angelica you can feel the heat of passion yes, but what you also experience is the overpowering love that they have for each other with every sentence.

Stephanie Laurens has never once let this series get jaded or slow down. She has built each book to stand alone and yet they feed off of one another which makes the series so enjoyable. I loved Angelica from the first book and having her be the perfect match for Dominic was just dare I say so romantic.

When you are a member of the Cynster family the ability to hold you own in a sea of relations is critical. Angelica Cynster may be the youngest in the family but at 21 years old she knows her own mind and what she finds acceptable. When Angelica lays her eyes upon Dominic Lacklan Guisachan, eighth Earl of Glencrae she knows she has found her soulmate, destiny, and most importantly her hero .

But as it turns out her hero is the man behind all of her sister’s kidnapping and Angelica it now the latest victim. Angry as she is, she allows Dominic to explain why he has been motivated to perform this heinous act repeatedly upon her and her sisters. What Angelica learns is the twisted motivation of Dominic’s mother to obtain revenge for something that happened so long ago no one but her remembers. With a woman bent on revenge and an entire clan’s livelihood at stake what will Angelica do. She knows Dominic is her hero and he is offering marriage as recompense for this grievous act upon her family, but still is he enough of a hero to sustain her for a lifetime.

What Angelica agrees to requires deceiving her family, traveling to the other end of civilization, and trusting her kidnapper. This hero she has chosen is nothing if not completely honest and every action he takes only warms her heart more toward him. Yet Angelica knows she is about to face the acting job of a lifetime to convince an unstable woman that she is not in love with Dominic and that he is not her hero but her demon. Everything that Dominic values pales in comparison to Angelica but his clan needs him to get his house in order and fix the damage his mother has done.

Stephanie Laurens writes so eloquently of the spirit that is the romance in love. Dominic and Angelica are such depth driven characters with personalities that match each other perfectly. With everything on the line and everyone stepping up to make things right at times it is hard to tell who the true hero of this story is. Just wonderful barely describes this love affair.

On this day in 1887, the good folks in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania observed the first Groundhog Day. I have not seen Bill Murray's Groundhog Day .... he tends to share the screen with furry creatures.

Let's go back further in history ... on this day in 1653, the Dutch West Indies Company incorporates New Amsterdam. From the National Park Service (at this link).

Although the Netherlands only controlled the Hudson River Valley from 1609 until 1664, in that short time, Dutch entrepreneurs established New Netherland, a series of trading posts, towns, and forts up and down the Hudson River that laid the groundwork for towns that still exist today. Fort Orange, the northernmost of the Dutch outposts, is known today as Albany; New York City's original name was New Amsterdam, and the New Netherland's third major settlement, Wiltwyck, is known today as Kingston.

An interesting tidbit from Wikipedia,

On August 22, 1654, the first Ashkenazic Jews arrived ... from Amsterdam to be followed in September by a sizable group of Sephardic Jews ... fleeing from the Portuguese reconquest of Dutch possessions in Brazil. The legal-cultural foundation of toleration as the basis for plurality in New Amsterdam superseded matters of personal intolerance or individual bigotry. Hence, and in spite of certain private objections (including that of director-general Peter Stuyvesant), the Sephardim were granted permanent residency on the basis of "reason and equity" in 1655.

After the British gained control of New Amsterdam, they renamed it New York after the King Charles II's brother, the Duke of York. The Duke later became King James II, the last Catholic King of England. He was removed from his throne by a Protestant Parliament. Funny that the Big Apple is named for a deposed king.

Last historical trivia, on this day in 1974, the F-16 Fighting Falcon makes its airborne debut. It remains a vital part of the US defense ... and it the aircraft for the Thunderbirds.

KISS OF THE VAMPIRE brought one consistent thought to my mind as I was reading it and that was “could I really walk away from someone I loved”. Keeping in mind that the character did it with the intent of letting the other character grow into their “demon”. But still – am I strong enough to walk away? Thankfully I won’t have to test this theory ever but you never know.

Does our past have to cloud any future we have together?

Being an enforcement officer under all circumstances is tough. For Nix de la Fuente she lives in a time where vampires, demons, and all sorts of creatures of the day and night roam. She is half-demon herself so her position is a help and a hindrance because not everyone trusts the non-human breed. Nix finds herself even further complicated at a crime scene when her former lover Tobias Caine, Vampire Liaison shows up.

Nix has shown she can control her demon except when Tobias shows up then all she can think about is the feel of her fingers as they brush against his skin. He ran from her five years ago and now coming back is going to complicate everything unless she gets a handle on her passion, which never happened before. The murder they stand at now is the second attack where the victim was eviscerated. These murders have not been done by a human leading everyone to wonder who could have taken down a vampire. Tobias and Nix have to work together to figure out who or what is doing this, establish a motive, and stop the mayhem before another creature is killed. To further muddy the waters there is someone or something that has opened a small rift between dimensions. This is being used to send cryptic radio transmissions and perhaps more nefarious things no one wants to talk about.

Tobias and Nix have a past full of secrets but a present that seems to show they have each grown into better more controlled people. The desire to solve the crime is as strong as the need to be in each other’s arms and let the tenderness of their relationship smooth out the rough edges. They are determined to find the mysterious mechanism everyone seems to want so badly and figure out its’ power in all dimensions.

This book starts with a full-on blast of fascinating characters and an unbelievably amazing storyline and never stops going. The reader will love the interaction with all the characters because it is so well written you understand everyone’s dynamics to the story. This is something only a great author like Ms. Garner can do and do well. I cannot wait for the next book in this series.

As I mentioned on SOS Aloha (at this link), I enjoyed SHERLOCK HOLMES - A GAME OF SHADOWS on Friday night. Movies come to the base theater about six weeks after their release - the base theater is less expensive and more convenient.

Having seen the first Sherlock Holmes movie with Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, I was looking forward to this second offering. I would not label it a sequel as it is a "standalone" film that does not require seeing the first one. Whereas the first film focused on the "dark arts" in London, A GAME OF SHADOWS begins in 1891 London and sweeps across Europe in a race against the growing anarchism and military industrialism:

Sherlock Holmes has always been the smartest man in the room...until now. There is a new criminal mastermind at large-Professor Moriarty - and not only is he Holmes' intellectual equal, but his capacity for evil, coupled with a complete lack of conscience, may actually give him an advantage over the renowned detective. When the Crown Prince of Austria is found dead, the evidence, as construed by Inspector Lestrade, points to suicide. But Sherlock Holmes deduces that the prince has been the victim of murder-a murder that is only one piece of a larger and much more portentous puzzle, designed by Professor Moriarty. The cunning Moriarty is always one step ahead of Holmes as he spins a web of death and destruction.

Watson and Mycroft

Early in the film, we meet Sherlock's brother, Mycroft, who refers a peace conference in Reichenbach Falls - Holmes purists like myself realize the plot is loosely based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's THE FINAL PROBLEM.

Mycroft's addition to the cast brought comic relief to the ongoing suspense as he repeatedly called his brother "Shirley". Likewise, Mycroft inadvertently provides the means for the closing scene that allows Robert Downey Jr. to shine as the beloved Sherlock.

Holmes and Watson

Yet I was taken with Jude Law as Dr. Watson. Law engages a wide range of emotions as Holmes uses Watson's bachelor party to further his investigation, Holmes delivers Watson hung over to his wedding, and Holmes interrupts Watson's honeymoon. Law demonstrates that Watson is a Renaissance Man - he is a caring doctor, competent marksman, and loyal friend.

At least they are married!

Kelly Reilly also gives us a few laughs as Mary Watson. Although she despises Holmes for his "bad" influence on Watson, Mary comes through in the end as a valued partner in their crusade.

Moriarty and Adler

Rachel McAdams makes a too brief appearance as Irene Adler, giving way for Noomi Rapace as Madame Simza to play the female counterbalance to Sherlock Holmes.

The other big name does not make a screen appearance. Instead, he directs the film - Guy Ritchie. Ritchie brings back Sherlock's "let me think this out before I do it" slow motion preview of an action sequence. The bonus - Moriarty joins Sherlock in the preview during the expected Reichenbach Falls scene.

Crossing the border

Ritchie employs a similar slow motion action during an escape scene through a snowy forest. Ritchie's technique intensifies the building suspense while suggesting subtle social commentary about the Industrial Revolution. This particular scene reminded me of a similar one from Captain America. In fact, both movies spotlight "out of control" military industrialists.

The Final Problem

SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS is a riveting "stay in your seat, the ride is about to get bumpy" movie. Ritchie adds just enough humor, which the stellar cast delivers, to offset the looming devastation as the Industrial Revolution grinds towards a continental war. And for the purist in me, the plot brings us closer to Doyle's Sherlock than the first movie from Ritchie.

Anthologies are a love-love relationship for me. You have great stories that move fast, quick character assimilation, and lots of romance. When you are in for a night for seduction, with Lora Leigh leading the way in this book it is a grand slam!

The only downside to an anthology is from a reviewing perspective. Anything you say can give away a plot line or spoiler. What I can say is each of the males is more than alpha they are centered with genuine kindness. The women show strength and persistence and a little stubborn but know when to ask for help.

Enjoy Legally Hot as it takes you on a fun and bumpy ride of romance and love.

I am sure a sign of getting old is always complaining about the weather regardless of what is going on and saying "where did the month go". But seriously, where did January go? For that matter how about the last six months - wow what hasn't happened.

My friend Kim and I always talk about, well everything but mostly the things that are happening which challenge us. We both have this and that going on but by keeping grounded for each other it seems that time and change march on and we either go with it or be trampled under it. I am going with it even though I am not too fond of it.

What I am thrilled to report is another week of wonderful times at my new job. Met more people and have been given some assignments that have gone successful. Being new to a job is hard but the double hit is new job and new company. You don't know what you are doing or who to ask. All things in time do happen as they should.

There were so many wonderful things about SUNRISE WITH A NOTORIOUS LORD (click link here for review) by Alexandra Hawkins I could go on for pages about it. Everyone knows that I can, have a history with that problem, and might but not today.

Today I am going to talk about meddling mothers and their sons. Everyone thinks of the mothers of the Ton as only working the room to get their daughters connected to a titled gentleman. Well in this book you have one sassy mother who wants more grandchildren and her son to shape up and get married. She is as sneaky and controlling as expected but her plans to whip her son into shape really are fun to watch.

Is it possible you were created just to bedevil and bewitch me?

Christopher Avery Courtland, Earl of Vanewright is determined not to get married. He is been sticking with this theory while at the same time attempting to stop his mother from trying to make that happen. When you have one of the most conniving of woman as your mother you have to out fox her but this time he may have been caught in a trap of his own making. The problem is not the woman his mother is pushing on him but her sister giving him a reason to blush, the radiant Isabel Thorne.

Isabel has always been as much a parent as a sister to Delia so trying to get her married off to a titled gentleman is the perfect set up. With an introduction into London society promised, Isabel takes Vane’s mother up on her offer to get Vane interested in Delia regardless of the consequences. Problem is with great plans and organized thinking is that when the heart takes over all rules and clear thought fly out the window. Isabel is trying to stop this over whelming desire to rush into Vane’s arms and feel his lips brush hers. This trip has been nothing but trouble, confusion, and terrible decisions that keep leading Isabel back to Vane.

Vane has led the most spirited life imaginable with his friends and never thought he was ever going to marry. Nevertheless, there stands Isabel with her innocence and striking beauty flowing around her like roses falling from the vine. Vane knows that Isabel cannot be his but has that stopped him before, no and as tempting as Isabel is in the simplest of frocks he cannot stop imaging the magnificence of seeing just her bare shoulder.

This book starts on a fast pace and never slows down. The action between the characters is riveting and when one pushes, another one shoves all to achieve their individual goals. One man has no way of defending himself when all these women have a plan written in such a lovely fashion by Ms. Hawkins.

Madeline's late husband wasn't a winner by any means, but he gave her two sons that she adores.

Evelyn Harper from TWO AND A HALF MEN,
She expresses a superficial fondness for her sons and grandson, but she rarely lives up to her self-perceived notion of being a devoted and misunderstood matriarch. Her sons and grandson generally return the favor and go out of their way to avoid interacting with her on most occasions. Her wide-ranging sex life is a recurring gag throughout the series.

An oldie but goodie, Endora from BEWITCHED,
Endora casts countless farcical spells on Darrin, but never attempts to destroy him outright. Endora's ploys to provoke a breakup always fail as Samantha's and Darrin's love overcomes every obstacle. When High Priestess Hephzibah expresses surprise that Darrin has withstood years of harassment from his mother-in-law, Endora can only shrug and admit, "He loves my daughter."

Thanks so much to Mary Gramich, one of my all-time favorite readers and reviewers, for hosting me today! I love Mary’s philosophy of if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all. The adage was one of my grandmother’s favorites—she drilled it in to me on an almost daily basis. You see, my grandmother had enough to deal with, taking care of my mother and grandfather, both who were afflicted with M.S. and raising me from infancy. She had no time for sourpuss people who did nothing but gripe over minutiae, preferring to spend her precious little bits of free time focusing on things she enjoyed, like reading, quilting and crossword puzzles.

I started out 2012 all set to throw myself into promoting my new release, No Limits, shoulders squared and ready for the reviews to start rolling in. Being an author is sort of like being naked in public. There’s no way to avoid the comments, the criticism both positive and negative. In fact you don’t just stand there, you climb up on the bench, jump up and down, waving your arms and yell, “Hey, over here, look at me!” You need people to notice you and no matter who jeers and makes you want to skulk off into the bushes, you have to keep standing there, to draw a bigger crowd if you ever want to succeed.

Do the jeerers and the sourpusses bother me? Of course they do, how could they not? But I’m not alone in my nudity because there are many other authors, some on higher perches with bullhorns that have gone through this particular hell of release after release and held onto the positive feedback in the reviews like the ones Mary writes. With a goal in mind and a positive outlook.

So you’ll definitely be seeing more of me! Happy reading!

If it sounds so good, does that really mean it cannot be?

Losing your job is everyone’s worst nightmare. Genevieve Luzon has to regroup since that is what she is facing now. Her family is a mixed bag of emotional support but financially she wants to be on her own.

When an acquaintance offers Gen what appears to be a wonderful offer she does not jump at it but figures, why not. Gen’s friend runs an escort service and one of her escorts is not following the rules. The well-paid and completely enjoyable assignment is to figure out which one. So let the games begin and the clothes start dropping as going under cover takes on new meaning with this job.

The discoveries that Gen comes up with have little to do with bad behavior and everything to do with something mystical. She appears to provide powers to a man she is drawn to in every way conceivable. Her bond with him grows stronger and more powerful with each encounter but someone lurking in the dark is trying to stop them from being together. The question that keeps nagging Gen is am I with the right man for right now or forever?

When creating complex paranormal worlds it takes a great writer to place the reader in a place that does not exist and have them unaware of that. Jenna McCormick has done a great job of writing with such erotic passion that I am never without a moment when I wonder if I will enjoy the next chapter, I absolutely know I will.

After I finished LOCKED AND LOADED (click link to cast your positive vote) I wanted to learn a little more about Alexis Grant. It was a wonderful discovery on her website to find some thoughts she had written that were very moving.

As you know 2012 is about fresh starts for me. I have a new job, two out of my three sons have moved to other states, and life for my family has completely changed. It is not that I do not like change but so much in such a short period is emotionally draining. However, when I took on the attitude of seeing life as a new adventure and giving everything a chance to be explored my entire persona changed for the better. I am not going to worry about everything that can go wrong and focus on my favorite part of life The Little Victories we should all celebrate. I know the important things in life are family, friends, and surrounding yourself with positive thoughts. Do not let the negative weigh on you or even give it a passing thought – it is a complete waste of time.

On Alexis’s website she has two items that caught my attention

Alexis write this about herself: Most importantly, I’m a dreamer. After years of dreaming about traveling, I left my reporting job in Houston in mid-2008 and backpacked through West Africa, Cameroon and Madagascar, freelancing for various publications along the way. I voyaged by boat to Timbuktu, to Cameroon to deliver a gift to a grieving polygamous family and to Madagascar to discover the howling Indri lemur.

She also mentioned tracking you accomplishments with a quote: This post from Seth Godin about the first thing you do when you sit down at the computer really made me think. He writes: …the first thing you do should be to lay tracks to accomplish your goals, not to hear how others have reacted/responded/insisted to what happened yesterday.

The Men of Delta Force

Am I strong enough to cross the line and take a chance on love?

Special Agent Sage Wagner is so far undercover she cannot see daylight. Living as the mistress to a drug kingpin is at worst frightening and at best terrifying. Sage has it completely under control because she is on this mission to not only bring the bad guys down but also take them out permanently. Her family was murdered in a random act of violence and Sage intends to make sure they feel the same pain she has.

What Sage never expected was Captain Anthony Davis to make her lose her focus and realize that there is something besides the job to live for. The encounter first encounter was anything was a smooth transition into a relationship but setting the tone early on of who is alpha always helps. Sage is also nothing Anthony expected but it turns out everything he could want. She shows her strength by playing her part so well, yet in his arms all the passion and desire could not be more real for both of them. They know their jobs are important but when they kiss, the priorities seem to shift enough to let love in and warm their hearts.

There is no room for error on either Sage or Anthony’s part and both know the risks they are taking. However, all is not well in the house of deceit and with traitors turning the tide of events in another direction who will be the last one standing.

If you want an action packed book look no further than Locked and Loaded starts with a bang and never stops. This is my first in The Men of Delta Force Series and will not be the last because I love characters that show their strength and weaknesses. With Sage and Anthony suffering has made them stronger and more determined to set things right in the world. Doing whatever they have to is just part of the job that they do, and do very well.

Aloha! As you may know, Mary has started a new job! She asked me if I could write a blog on Saturdays as she settles into her new work place. Of course I jumped at this opportunity!

I have been reading more contemporary romances with references to pop culture. Pop culture is the phenomena of the time. Reality TV has become firmly cemented in pop culture. Tonight I came home from the gym and relaxed in front of the boob tube, stopping at HGTV's Selling Spelling Manor. According to Wikipedia, it has "123 rooms and 76,000 square feet of space on more than 4.6 acres".

At 8, the boy suffered what he termed a nervous breakdown, and he spent a year in bed. He later considered that period the birth of his creative urge. He fell in love with great storytellers, especially O. Henry. Of his early TV series he said, “They are all O. Henry short stories.”

“I still have nightmares about being in a $6,000 house in Dallas, Texas,” he remarked in a 1996 AP interview. “Wall-to-wall people, one bathroom. I was the one to go to the local bakery a block away on Saturday to get the day-old stuff.”

Spelling enlisted in the Army Air Corps after graduating from high school in 1942.

After combat and organizing entertainment in Europe during the war, Spelling returned to Texas and enrolled at Southern Methodist University, where he wrote and directed plays. He continued working in local theatrics after graduating.

Spelling was also a college cheerleader.

When I count my Little Victories as I do all the time one of two people that I thank for really getting my blog to take off and look great are Kim Adams and Mike Draper.

My relationship with Mike is another of those connected via the internet friendships. Mike found me on Amazon and liked my reviews and started an email friendship with me that to this day is something I appreciate. I had so many questions and he really gave me all the answers never once acting like my questions were a burden or he didn’t have time for me. So thanks Mike for that.

When he told me he was working on his own book SPLATTERED BLOOD (click link here for Amazon review) I absolutely jumped in with both feet and resources to help him out. He knew that I might not like the book but had faith in his work to trust me to give him a good review. Well I loved this book because it covers all my favorite mystery hot spots – who done it, why they did it, and the details about the case. I like details and some do not but this book is what makes me love to read it gives me information without ever slowing the story down.

Congratulations Mike on a first book hit and what I anticipate is a future of successful writing.

How can I get an answer to my question when none of the facts add up?

Living the consistent life of an insurance agent has provided Randy Larkin with a sense of peace and some extended family. Randy likes the security he can give to others and knows his clients as friends. Therefore, when one of his best friends is brutally murdered there is no way he is going to stand by and not make this right for the family. He may be a mild mannered agent but he is also will not let his friend’s death go unsolved.

Randy connects with the widow, Roseanne and her brother Graham to come up with a plan to accelerate the investigation. Right now, the murder is declared a suicide but everyone knows it is not and is prepared to do what it takes to get the answers. The main connection to everything is a pro basketball team, which seems to have financial issues and more than its fair share of player misconduct. Digging deeper Randy and his cohorts make someone very angry. The violence escalates, the attacks become personal, and anyone the group talks to lose their ability to speak.

This group may at first blush appear to be amateur detectives but their methods are getting answers faster by following leads the police ignore, which do not always take them in the correct direction but point them to another avenue of possible answers. The police finally see they are getting somewhere and start to listen and take advice from them on where to look and the main suspects. The layers of deception run deep and the past problems are about to collide with the present situation and trying to stay alive becomes objective number one for everyone.

Michael Draper has taken a great leap into the literary world by creating a fascinating mystery mixed with intriguing characters. It is not easy to keep a reader on the edge of their seat never knowing where the book is going but SPLATTERED BLOOD certainly will not let you put it down or rest until you know “who done it”

Storage Wars follows teams of bidders looking to score it big in the high stakes world of storage auctions.

In season two the hunt continues as the fortune foursome blaze through Southern California storage facilities -- but with new enemies and higher stakes, finding auction treasure has never been more difficult.

Barry Weiss brings humor to the show.

We enjoy the "finds" from each storage locker (whether it is an actual find or stocked by the producer). The buyers often find treasures that showcase our history and other cultures. It would be a perfect show if the buyers simply focused on that - the goods. In keeping with pop culture, there has to be drama as the buyers back stab each other.

We became addicted midway through Season Two. Tonight, A&E rebroadcast some episodes from Season One, giving us the opportunity to compare it to Season Two. Season Two is significantly glossier with more dramatics and hijinks.

I found this true with my blog. When an author is a repeat guest, I often reread his/her previous interview. Sometimes I cringe at my questions, my writing, and even my pictures (or lack thereof). Let's use the wine and cheese analogy - I've matured over time with my blog.

Knowing this, does this prevent you from reading an author's older books? Or do you plunge into them, regardless of age?

I love starting a new book that is taking place in a time I have not read before. In TROUBLE AT THE WEDDING the year is 1904 and everything is on the brink of change. You feel all this swirling around the characters and the chance they feel to step into waters deeper than usual.

The problem of course is some of the issues with money, society, and placement in the big picture is ever-present. However, when you read this book and you will because it is so compelling you have to, you realize the some of the problems discussed still happen today and as always wish they did not.

At what point do we cease with all these rules of engagement?

At the turn of the 20^th century having old money was treated with respect, but having new money put you in a state of being caught between the world you came from and not accepted in the one you long to be part of. For Miss Annabel Wheaton a newly moneyed Southern Belle the only way out of this rut is to marry a titled English man. No one thinks this is a good idea but Annabel is a determined steel magnolia who knows how to get her way.

Annabel’s uncle is determined to stop a relationship doomed for disaster and hires a rake to make it all go away. The idea was for Christian du Quesne, the Duke of Scarborough to use his charm and make the wedding come to a screeching halt. What no one expected was for a complete explosion. Christian may be desperate to fill his family coffers but not enough to marry and yet here was Annabel now seeking a husband due to his action, which Christian is remiss to explain even to himself. Neither of them wants to depend on the other but the resolution to the issue appears to be the road of most resistance from both of them. Annabel and Christian will walk the correct path but where it will lead is the question right now.

Christian knows he should never love again but perhaps Annabel will be the salve to heal his heart and set him free. If wishes were hopes than the one answer both of them is seeking shall be found.

This is a wonderful combination of the still under development American life with established English culture. This book is a reflection of changes that happened in the colonies but still show the problems and how class order issues remain regardless of your side of the pond. Annabel is the best of what women have become and Christian is a man who knows change is coming and looks to embrace it.

Mail is slow to Hawaii, especially magazines. I just received the February issue of the RT Book Reviews. When the magazine arrives, I retreat to my bedroom so I can read it in peace.

Imagine my delight when I read Kathryn Falk's column on page 4, paragraph 4,

Get ready for bigger and better Book Fairs at the convention. We welcome Diane Stacy as the Book Fair coordinator at our 29th convention in Chicago, April 11 -15. This dynamo is also in charge of Promotion Lane and she'll see that giveaways are in front of the readers and booksellers. After the fair closes, we have a new event called FAN-tastic Day where readers can mingle with authors in a party atmosphere. The SOS (Support Our Soldiers) Mixer is on Saturday. Kim Lowe is again in charge, and she has organized military VIPs, honor guards, and more. Bags of books for military families will be distributed.

The SOS Military Mixer is Saturday, April 14, 3:30 - 5:00 pm, at the convention hotel. It is open to anyone registered at the convention plus military families from the local area.

Last year's barbershop quartet serenaded the audience.

I have scheduled an AFROTC Honor Gaurd to post the colors and a barbershop quartet to sing the National Anthem. Stay tuned for more details.

LA Air Force Base provided the Color Guard last year.
I sent them a box of Hawaiian goodies as a thank you.

The convention begins on Wednesday, April 11, with panels, parties, and promos for readers, authors, publishers, and anyone who enjoys books! Plus the special Saturday program as Kathryn mentioned in her column, FAN-tastic Day.

When you have read and written about an author as much as I have Nicola Cornick you run out of ideas to talk about. We know each other personally, enjoyed a wonderful meal, and shared emails for three plus years.

So today I am going to talk about an aspect that really hit home with me in NOTORIOUS – doing the right thing. Susanna made decisions that affected so many lives in a positive and negative aspect. She broke hearts and created situations that were out of her control but still affected so many other.

When Susanna came back into Devlin’s life unexpectedly, she shook everything up. Susanna moved about without a reason for her leaving in the first place and acts as if she did not know Devlin. As the story progresses you of course realize what she did and why she had to do it, yet in the back of my mind I was thinking, “If I really loved this person would I leave them without so much as a goodbye note.”

I feel that I always want to do the right thing but and sometimes wonder if it selfish or inconsiderate of me to want the right thing to be done and still work out for me? This gives me thought that is for sure and that is why I love to read.

His questions of where she has been for the last 9 years go unanswered and his burning need to know why she left him in their wedding night must be given. Devlin has a right to know where she has been and what she is up to now because the apple cart Susanna is about to overturn involves Devlin’s sister. As Devlin and Susanna move around each other they find it difficult to keep wearing the masks of anger and fulfill their passionate desires.

Selling your soul comes with such a high price that no one can ever repay regardless of how hard you try. Dev and Susanna found this out many times over but realize that combining their strength helped them overcome any obstacle before and it may again. The past was a burden for them but true love can help you live in the present and prepare for a future.

Nicola Cornick knows how to write about the meaning of love and having the work it takes to obtain it. Her books always take you on a journey with amazing characters who you become champions for as they find one another and feel the blush love and romance with a twist.

I'm Back!

First off thanks to my buddy Kim for as always covering my back and taking care of my blog this past week. When I tell you that things were busy, it is not by any means over stating the fact.

My son left for California and the week leading up to that was chaos in my house. We cleaned his room, packed his car and sent him off. The only upside to this is I turn that room into a "get ready" area for me. I have my clothes, a vanity, and everything that is all about me. I wish my son were still here but he is doing great.

New job is great and I foresee this being the place I was hoping for and pray that this is my last job.

I discovered British author Freya North when I lived in the Netherlands and swapped books with a British mom at David's preschool. Freya is celebrating the US release of her 10th novel, SECRETS.

Oh, its time to play six degrees of separation between Hawaii and SECRETS.

1. During his third voyage to the South Pacific James Cook stumbled across the Hawaiian Islands in January 1778. He became the first recorded European to dock in Waimea Bay, Kauai.

2. During this voyage, Captain Cook commanded the ship HMS Resolution.

3. Resolution is the name of the Victorian house in Freya North's SECRETS.

4. SECRETS unfolds in Saltburn-by-the-Sea, heart of "Captain Cook" country.
