During my first RWA National Conference, Jeannie Lin won RWA's Golden Heart for Historical Romance - her manuscript was ultimately published as BUTTERFLY SWORDS. I've enjoyed Jeannie develop as a respected author who writes outside traditional European history. She recently asked me to review MY FAIR CONCUBINE:
HE NOBLEMAN WHO TURNED A TEA GIRL INTO A PRINCESS...
Yan Ling tries hard to be servile-it's what's expected of a girl of her class. Being intelligent and strong-minded, she finds it a constant battle.
Proud Fei Long is unimpressed by her spirit-until he realizes she's the answer to his problems. He has to deliver the emperor a "princess." In two months can he train a tea girl to pass as a noblewoman?
Yet it's hard to teach good etiquette when all Fei Long wants to do is break it, by taking this tea girl for his own....

I do prefer my black tea hot with milk, but some of the fruit teas are delicious ice-cold.
ReplyDeleteTea with lemon is so good and comforting.
ReplyDeleteI love tea all year round - when I make it hot I like it with a little sugar and cold with lemon and sugar.
ReplyDeleteI only drink tea, no coffee for me. I like black tea, hot with everything in it.
ReplyDeletehonestly i dont really like drink tea or coffee, but hey.. i'm forget to tell you that i love the tea you send to me, kim, even my sister like it too and asked me when i can get the tea again *lol
ReplyDeletethe reason i dont like drink tea or coffee because i can't sleep after drink tea or coffee even if i drink in the morning and i still cant sleep in the night, but when i drink tea you sent, i dont feel that way, no problem at all and i can sleep :)
Mostly I drink hot tea (black or green) either plain or with a touch of honey. I also have enjoyed cold green tea. I didn't drink tea for a long time because the only time I got it as a child was if I was sick and I associated it with that. But I started trying it again when I went out for Chinese food and now I enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteI like lemon tea with some honey/sugar. I only take it if it's decaf though nowadays or I can't sleep at night.
ReplyDeleteI like both hot and cold tea. I usually drink green tea and I don't put anything in it. The flavored teas are good, too.
ReplyDeleteAh tea, I am still learning how to enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteI have had Butterfly Swords in my TBR list for some time now. I had sort of forgotten about it! I really should find it...
I like hot or cold black tea with lemon.
ReplyDeleteHi Kim -
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for featuring Jeannie today! I love her books and one reason is when I was just a teenager my oldest sister's husband who had served in the Marines during Viet Nam on A-4's in Vietnam had finally finished his duty and became a pilot for Pan Am and his first assignment was in Hong Kong!
My sister had never traveled outside the United States before and was fascinated by the difference is the customs and difference of growing up in a small village in Up-State New York to find herself in such a diverse society. I still have some of the old black and white photos she took and would send back to me that highlighted the people and places where she was living. Since them I've always been fascinated by the far east and Jeannie's books have given me a much better understanding of their culture and values.
The one lasting thing my sister introduced me to was tea! My parents were both coffee drinkers - black, no sugar or milk so tea was a new experience for me. Since then it's been my "relaxation" drink! I still drink coffee - black, no cream or sugar, each morning - how would I be able to function at 6:30 every morning without it! but my drink of choice on a warm summer day is ice tea and during the winter there is nothing like a great cup of Earl Grey with milk and sweet and low (I'm a Type I diabetic so "real sugar" is definately not allowed!
I must admit I don't know what type of tea it was but the best tea I every had was when my husband and I got to visit England (a trip I was earned from my job at the time -YEAH!) I couldn't tell you where is was in London but I did buy a tea cup while I was in London as well so I don't know if it tasted so good because I actually had the chance to visit England (for free!) or the tea was so good! (I bought that tea cup at Herrod's!). I still have and use the tea cup!
