Mary’s Monet Moments in Reviewing... THERE GOES THE BRIDE by Holly McQueen

I am not sure why but it really does seem like everyone else has the perfect life.  I know they do not because come on even money is not going to buy you good health, just ask Steve Jobs – oh wait you cannot. In THERE GOES THE BRIDE by Holly McQueen everyone is convinced that their friend is better off, more attractive, in love with the perfect man, and everything else we talk about.  Yet when you scratch the surface you see that no one is perfect, everyone makes poor decisions, and yes your family is a little off the center into unbalanced.

Yet life does go on every day for us and when we look inside and not outside you will find that while imperfect, your life is better much the way it is supposed to be.

I have read and reviewed THERE GOES THE BRIDE by Holly McQueen that I received from Atria Books.  Now it is time to let someone else enjoy it and provide this copy to one lucky winner.  To be eligible to win please leave a comment on “do you have a friend with a perfect life?”.  You must come back on Sunday – June 10th  to see if you have won and then email me with your address.

As a fan of Claude Monet’s I am always moved by how he took the negatives in his life to make them positives.  No one liked his paintings, they criticized his innovative style, and what he thought was okay he went with.  Life may knock you around but look for the one shining moment in the day and celebrate a Little Victory.

THERE GOES THE BRIDE by Holly McQueen

Why does everyone else seem to have the perfect life?

Friends as close as Bella, Grace, and Polly should be able to tell each other everything.  Right now, they are not telling each other anything especially Polly who has decided at the last minute to not get married.  She has come home to London only to reveal that there is something wrong but don’t ask what it is because she is not talking.

Bella is trying to help her sister Polly by getting her back together with the fiancĂ©.  All this while working through her issues with “the boyfriend” as he tells her he wants to be with her and supports her he never around when she needs him the most.

Grace is a young mother of two trying to fit in to a place she has never belonged, married to a man she believed was going to love her for life.  When the dreams of youth become the reality of married life Grace finds companionship and the affection she is starved for in the arms of another man.  The guilt she feels over this deception is unbearable but the attention the man pays her out of bed as well as in overwhelms her with fulfillment.

Polly is the center of everyone’s attention and trying to establish what went wrong the drove her upcoming nuptials off the track.  She won’t talk, refuses to see the befuddled fiancĂ©, and does her best to avoid seeing anyone that cares about her.  Polly has always been the levelheaded one and now that her life is crumbling around her, it seems to be pulling everyone that loves her into the quick sand with her.

Holly McQueen can tell a tale by drawing the reader into the story so completely it feels as what is happening somehow involves you.  The characters are flawed and perfect at the same time due to real life issues they are dealing with.  We want love to last forever but will it?

  1. There are aspects of my friends lives that I would love to have, but I would not say anyone has the prefect life. I'm not looking to trade.

  4. Even the friends I have who appear to have perfect lives, really don't. Hardships and troubles occur for everyone. I know my life is not perfect, but I'm grateful for the life I do have.

  7. I agree that sometimes it seems like someone may have the perfect life but no one really knows everything that goes on in someone's life. There are two I would say seem to have it all but I know for sure that one has gone through many, many hardships. It's nice to think there is at least someone I know that seems to have it all.

  8. Aloha, Mary!

I love the wide variety of books you spotlight on your blog! I'll add THERE GOES THE BRIDE to my summer reading list.

Yes, I have friends who are perfect in everything - military officer, doting mother, spotless house. But I know it must come at some price!

  11. Thanks for the great review and giveaway!

Luckily I don't have that "perfect" friend. All of my friends have their own flaws and weaknesses and we all take strength and support from our friendships :)
