Aloha to Sara Luck and CLAIMING THE HEART

This week has been full of surprises in the mail!   I received a bounty of books from Pocket.  I'd like share my bounty with you by giving away Sara Luck's CLAIMING THE HEART:

As the Texas and Pacific Railroad expands across the wide open frontier, a spirited young woman finds a triumphant love amidst the tracks and tumult.

History in the making . . .

July 1876: Building a railroad that reaches Fort Worth city limits by a midnight deadline is an all-consuming obsession for track supervisor Gabriel Corrigan—while his socialite wife, Marthalee, daughter of a powerful Louisiana politician, heads home to arrange a marriage annulment. But when Gabe crosses paths with Josie Laclede, a vivacious businesswoman from St. Louis, he sees a sassy lady bold enough to stake her claim in the wild Texas plains—yet soft and sweet enough to win his heart.

Love for the keeping . . .

Though her past is a mystery—Josie was a foundling, raised by a kind widower who now runs a shop and hotel with her—Gabe dreams of a bright future with Josie by his side. Tantalized by his gentle kisses, and swept up in the thrilling track-laying race that has all of Fort Worth pitching in, Josie is tempted to fall hard for Gabe. But Marthalee returns, vying for the T&P fortune he stands to make. And when her father offers Gabe a senate seat and a chance to get back into his well connected family, a heartbroken Josie vanishes with the prairie breeze. Will their dream of a once-in-a-lifetime love go up in smoke?

Sara posted RT's four star review on her blog at this link.  Sara is full of surprises on her bio (from this link):

Sara Luck has lived the life that other novelists write about. A retired school teacher, Sara taught in Alaska, 200 miles above the Arctic Circle. She has traveled to every state in the United States and has watched Bowhead Whales breaching in the Chukchi Sea, cavorting Dahl Sheep in the Brooks Range, leaping cutthroat trout on Oregon's McKenzie River, roaming grizzly bear and mountain lions in the Absorka Range in Wyoming, and dolphins at play from her beach home at Gulf Shores, Alabama.

To enter the giveaway,

1.  Leave a comment about something unusual you have done in your life.  The military has given me many opportunities to live overseas.  My favorite opportunity was to deploy to Greece and drive up to the Albania border.  I convinced the border guard to give me a stamp even though I only walked five feet into his recently opened country.

2.  This giveaway is open to all readers.

3.  Comments are open through Friday, June 22, 10 pm in Hawaii.  I'll post the winner on Saturday, June 23.

Mahalo,

Kim in Hawaii

  1. When I was eleven my Father had long service leave. We tented our way around Australia for months. We crossed the Nullabor Plain, both ways, when it was a dirt road. This was hundreds of miles of straight, nothingness & no-one.

  5. I lived in West Virginia for a year when I was 17/18 and I visited a friend of the family, who lived way back in the woods and still had an outhouse as a bathroom. No running water and didn't want any. They had a well that they were able to take up bucket fulls of water from, right on their property. They had a few cows and I tasted fresh milk for the first time.

  11. Thanks for a fabulous post! This book sounds awesome and I will be definitely adding it to my wishlist ;)

I remember once when we were teens, a small group of us wandered onto the roof of a hilton hotel and hung out and watched the stars come out. It was that whole "summer of '69" vibe... (but it was really 1999). I loved that summer... it was so fun and carefree :)
