Mary’s Monet Moments in Reviewing... A NIGHT LIKE THIS by Julia Quinn

I am a Julia Quinn fan and state so openly.  Every year I look forward to her latest book and overall there have been very few misses for me.  A NIGHT LIKE THIS is a complete romantic home run and so enchanting I could not put it down.  The Smythe-Smith Family is as entertaining as the Bridgerton’s were and have a wonderful sense of fun around life experiences.

I have read and reviewed A NIGHT LIKE THIS by Julia Quinn that I received from Avon Publishing.  Now it is time to let someone else enjoy it and provide this copy to one lucky winner.  To be eligible to win please leave a comment on “tell me a special night you cannot forget?”.  You must come back on Sunday – May 27th to see if you have won and then email me with your address.

As a fan of Claude Monet’s I am always moved by how he took the negatives in his life to make them positives.  No one liked his paintings, they criticized his innovative style, but what he thought was okay he went with.  Life may knock you around but look for the one shining moment in the day and celebrate a Little Victory.

A NIGHT LIKE THIS by Julia Quinn

Smythe-Smith Quartet Series , #2

Will my heartfelt dreams ever be fulfilled?

Running, hiding, and always looking over your shoulder are no way to live.  Both Daniel Smythe-Smith, the Earl of Winstead and Anne Wynter have been chasing and trying not to be noticed for too many years.  Daniel is finally free of his demon, or so he hopes and finds Anne just when things are looking up is no coincidence.

Anne’s poor decisions created a situation where she cannot reveal her true identity.  She needs the governess job she holds to make sure she can survive and still looks over her shoulder every moment of the day.  Daniel is more than a distraction for her; he is a complete and total obsession.  The feelings are mutual for both of them and they know the obstacles.  The question becomes which one will have the good sense to stop a relationship before it starts.  Anne will allow one kiss to hopefully put a stop to it all but that one moment of bliss is the heart of every magical moment either of them could have imagined.

Daniel will pursue, Anne will taunt, and both will make wishes upon stars in the night.  But will any of it fulfill their desire to be together.  What Daniel wants he normally achieves but this time the hurdles are society as well as family with both proving to be daunting opponents what the heart wants.  When Daniel becomes Anne’s protector and they both show how strong they are together perhaps, the walls between them can come down.

Julia Quinn has the ability to take the written word and turn it into a magical experience.  Readers are always treated to the joy of romance and the passion that comes from the simple touch of a hand.

  1. One night I won't forget was when we were in Vegas for a wedding. We had so much fun walking down the Strip and visiting clubs.

  3. I remember our wedding night. Before we could leave we had to have the window fixed. Our friends broke it while decorating the car.

  5. The night my dad and I went to a Harlem Globe Trotters game and we had seats in the front. The players pulled my dad out onto the court and danced with him. My dad loved to entertain, and so he loved it. Later on, little kids came up to my dad with their programs and asked for his autograph. It was a very fun night.

  6. I love Julia Quinn--good to hear you enjoyed the book.

My night to remember is my first as a Mother, when my son was born all those years ago. So precious.

  7. For one my honeymoon night. We spent it at my husband's uncle's cabin. Satin sheets and a fridge full of champagne(although at the time I didn't care for it lol) and a bunch of his friends playing a prank on us. Scared us to death insisting they come in because they knew he was there (my husband and his uncle sound very much alike).

  10. I would have to say when I became a mom. My daughter decided that she wanted to be born early. I ended up going into labor at 8 months. She was ready to come and they held her off for a week, but she decided she could wait no longer. She was 3lbs & 1/2 oz when she was born. She ended up being in the hospital for 2 months extra. She now is 10 years old and still very much in a hurry to be anywhere and everywhere. Thanks for the giveaway.
Love Julia Quinn's books and am very excited for the next book in the Smith-Smythe series. Very excited for David's story. Thanks for the great giveaway.

  11. The night I'll never forget happened in May 1969. I had picked up two of my friends from work to drive out to Jacksonville Beach for a Tupperware party and a car followed us all the way there! It was night and there were three men in the car so I was uneasy about the situation. When we got out of the car they approached us and I headed toward the door while my friends (being much braver than I was) started talking to them! They called me back and I reluctantly joined them.

Come to find one of my friends knew one of them and introduced me to them. They were in the Navy and assigned to a squadron at NAS Cecil Field which was nearby.

That night was a night I'll never forget because one of them ended up asking me out. We married the following February and this year we celebrated our 42nd anniversary!

PS: After our 2 sons were born I wanted to be able to stay at home with them so I became a Tupperware manager so I could work nights and be able to make my own schedule so I never had to miss that special day at school, a little league game and all those other times that now I'm a grandmother 5 times over I treasure more than ever!

  12. Thanks for a fabulous giveaway! I really need to crawl out from under my rock and read Julia's books!

A very memorable night for me was when I met my dear boyfriend. We've been together for over 3 years. It was a beautiful night and we made a lot of memories :)

  13. The night that I cannot forget was when I finished writing my first
(and only) manuscript (after almost a year of writing it) and passed it to a local publishing company. After a week, it was still memorable because it was rejected T_T.
