Mia Marlowe recently visited Hawaii. I joined her family for a few adventure on Oahu. While I shared Hawaiian trivia with her, Mia shared book news with me. And here's fabulous news from Mia - she's part of ROCK*IT READS. From its website at www.rockitreads.com,

Joan Swan and Elisabeth Naughton have been promoting Rock*it Reads. Absolutely love those two authors!
ReplyDeleteMy only problem with novellas is that they are too short. I get engaged and then BOOM it's over.
I do enjoy novellas that you can finish in one sitting. It's fun when you discover an author and you glom their entire backlist.
ReplyDeleteI agree that novellas are too short but they often help to keep one entertained while waiting for the next novel in the series. I think e-books are convenient for traveling but much prefer print books. I loved the I-team series and look forward to reading the novella...although I think Pamela Clare has a little too much personal knowledge of some of the hair-raising exploits she writes about!
ReplyDeleteI still prefer print to e-books & will always prefer a full length novel to a novella. Both e-books & novellas do have their place though.
ReplyDeleteI do love having access to an author's backlist.
I still like print books but read ebooks all the time now. I read everything
ReplyDeleteI love my print books. I do regret all the great stories I'm missing because I don't have an e-reader. :) I love back lists because once I find an Author I like I can then go to her back list and read the other books. Pamela's Mackinnon's Rangers series is fantastic. I'm looking forward to book 3--Defiant soon.

Even though I love my ebooks, I still buy print books. There's just something about holding a book in your hand. I love novellas but sometimes I wish the stories were longer.
ReplyDeletehem.. still love print book then ebook, maybe after i have my tab, i will prefer ebooks :)
ReplyDeletelove novella :)
I prefer print books. I don't really care for novellas. Things happen to fast and you don't really get to know the characters.
ReplyDeleteI love my print books, but I did just get an e-reader so I'm stepping my toes in the water (so to speak) with the whole e-book thing.
ReplyDeleteI have yet to read a novella worth taking the time to read. I just don't care for them, they are too short. I like full length novels.
ReplyDeleteI have read the occasional ebook that I've won or been giving by the author. I don't have an ereader and have no plans on getting one so I read them on my computer. Not something I like doing so I don't buy them. I don't even enter contests when the prize being offered is an ebook, it's just not worth it to me. I would much rather have a print book.
I love being able to see the backlist of authors I just find and want to read more of their books.
I like ebooks but I love and prefer the print books. It's crazy because I love the smell of them. And I have no problems with novellas, they may end sooner but they're still enjoyable to read plus they're very recommendable to those who have busy schedules and have little time reading (like my sisters. :D)
ReplyDeleteI enjoy all of those--ebooks, author backlists, and novellas. In the past year, I've read a few truly excellent novellas--Courtney MIlan's A Governess Affair (current) and Unlocked (2011), Tessa Dare's Once Upon a Winter's Eve and Lee Child's Second Son come to mind.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a working e-reader (as yet)and I don't think I'll ever give up my love of print books. I prefer the longer books to short stories but every once in a while I give one a try. If I find an author I really love, I will go to their backlists.
ReplyDeleteEbooks- I love that they take up so little space. I wish that it was easier to find the blurb from the back of a book when I choose what to read out of the ebooks I already own. When I pick up a book off my shelf at home I just flip it over to see the blurb and have an idea what the book's about. I haven't found a way to even find it with my kindle.
ReplyDeleteI still read print too.
I just bought my first ereader. I tried it out on my home computer and decided I have always liked reading paperbacks (needing something tangible to hold), but am tired of lugging the around. I'm big on series reads so it's not convenient to have to keep up with so many books, not to mention the space they're taking up in the house. I love the convenience and don't have to worry about having to hide the front cover picture (school teacher). As far as giving up paperback, probably not completely but we'll have to wait and see.
ReplyDeleteThanks for a great post! I love my Kindle! It's opened a whole new world for me. I've been able to try new authors and I've found myself buying so much more. I love e-books of any form now. I didn't used to buy anthologies or novellas cuz I thought they weren't worth the money. But e-books are so cheap and so I find myself buying all the novellas from my fav authors :)
ReplyDeleteEbooks are definitely growing on me - I'm acquiring more and more, especially since I can read them on my iPhone. I love that many authors are now releasing their backlists and novellas as ebooks, especially those books that were out of print, or novellas that were part of an anthology. There's so much more to choose from now, and at very reasonable prices (or even free in some instances).
ReplyDeleteFor anyone who hasn't visited the Rock*it Reads my question is what are you waiting for?
ReplyDeleteThey really knew what a reader was looking for when they set up the site and it's a breeze to navigate so me sure to pour a cup of coffee, sit back and be sure to check all of the site. You might just be surprised what you find!
I'm familiar with the books of all the authors and believe me the hardest thing is deciding what to get first. Hum, maybe they can add a special button that says "Order one of each book available" because if you don't the hardest thing you'll face is what not to get!
If you have Kindle like I do you don't even have to worry about having room in your bookshelves to add all the books you'll want to get NOW!
Kudos to all the authors!
PS: I love all types of books not only the genres but long or short, series, stand alone, novella or full length,, single author or anthology! he
ReplyDeleteMy favorite part of all of them is that one "Calgon moment" when the author takes you away and you just sit back and say "I love this story"!
I've read books by several of those authors, but not all, so it looks like I have some reading to catch up on.
ReplyDeleteI'm not eEnabled so I haven't read the new digital novellas - do the shorter stories in anthologies count as novellas? I do like those.
What a great idea these ladies had to start RIR. There are some amazing authors in this group =)
ReplyDeleteI am currently waiting (impatiently) for Lila's newest book Undone to come to my local B&N. Yeah I could get it as an ebook, but I love holding a print book. The smell, the feel, the beautiful covers to stare at. I love print books. Though there are times ebooks are very handy they will never top my love of "real" books.
I'm not into e-readers at all. I tried them but it's too much like work... Give me a paperback or a book on CD any day!
ReplyDeleteI like all of them that is so cool , great authors so. Lucjky Ty for. The giveaways
ReplyDeleteKimh
I love both :). I have some books in ebook format and some in real book format :). I love pamela Clare too. One of my number one author :), Aretha zhen
ReplyDeleteI have read some ebooks but still read mostly print. I do like having the chance to read some authors backlists. Some of those stories are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI think it's a great idea to republish backlist books into ebook format.
ReplyDeleteI think it's a great idea to publish backlists as e-books. I enjoy novellas, although sometimes they seem a little too brief.
