Mary’s Musings...about HOW TO RAVISH A RAKE by Vicky Dreiling

While reading HOW TO RAVISH A RAKE by Vicky Dreiling you follow the story of how Amy starts something unheard of in this time, a career.  Amy is a talented fashion designer and had the ability to make a fortune of her own without sharing any with her husband.

You have to think about this for a few seconds to realize the number of talented, gifted, and passionate women who never had the chance to show their talent.  Overshadowed by a society that did not appreciate them or respect their craft, sound familiar?

HOW TO RAVISH A RAKE by Vicky Dreiling came to me from Grand Central Forever for a review and contest give away.  All I ask in return for you to be eligible to win is please leave a comment on “tell me about the woman you most admire?” Now, you have to come back on Sunday – April 15th when I post the winners for the week and see if you have won.  If you do not come back, you will not know you won, and you will not get your prize because I am going to need your address.

Life is about closing doors, opening windows, clearing the air, and celebrating one positive LITTLE VICTORY in a day that may have been full of negatives.  Do not forget to cast your positive votes for me on Amazon or Barnes and Noble.  Your vote matters and I greatly appreciate my followers!

HOW TO RAVISH A RAKE by Vicky Dreiling

Do you feel my love even when we are not together?

Amy Hardwick was reconciling herself to spinsterhood and building a career as a fashion designer.  This was happening in a time when women were expected to be married not career minded, yet Amy knew she should have some income just in case.  That just in case turned out to be the man she is now married to Mr. William Darcett.

Will is an infamous rake that started out with the intent of using Amy and her money to eliminate his debt.  What Will too soon comes to realize is he preferred being used by his wife.  Will is keeping a secret from her about his initial true intentions but it appears Amy has her own deception going on.  Is the marriage they have created strong enough to survive Will’s interfering family, each of their personal agendas, and a cat that cannot stay out of their bed?

Vicky Dreiling keeps this series fresh, exciting, and romantically alive.

  5. My mother was my hero when she was still alive and I shall always remember her and the life lessons she taught me. But today, I believe I most admire my daughter. She totally amazes me in what she has accomplished in her life so far and what her plans are for her future. She and her husband both took chances to quit working for large corporations and begin work from home. They were totally debt free when they began their home-based careers and are still totally debt-free. Not many people in their early 40's can say that...actually, not many people of any age can say that.

  6. I admire my mother. She sacrificed a lot for all of her children, worked hard, loved my dad, loved us kids, and and encouraged us all with our goals and plans for our futures. I'm so fortunate to still have her in my life. As she has grown older, she has become more spontaneous and is living life to the fullest despite set-backs that have occurred.

  8. The woman I most admire would be Corrie ten Boom, who had a career in watch repair and then, in her 50s, ran an underground chain in WWII.

  9. I'm not picking just one - I admire women all over that do the best they can with what they have. I really believe it's the women that keep families together even under unfavorable circumstances.

  10. The woman i most admire would be my Mom. She has passed but i try to be as good a person like her as i can be. She was a wonderful mother and a wonderful wife to my Dad for 45 years. She was nice, unselfish, and always there for me and my 6 siblings. I thank GOD everyday for giving me my Mom; just wish she were still here...

  14. The woman I most admire is my older sister. She's worked hard to get where she is, and has succeeded beyond anything I could ever do. She's always been generous with what she has, and doesn't ask for anything in return. She's my best friend and totally my best relative. :D

  15. The woman that I admire most is my sister's daughter. She's a single Mum, works 24 hour shifts as a Firefighter/Paramedic, supports her son all by herself, has already paid for his college in advance. She also has her own home and car, and pays all of her bills on time. I'm really, really proud of her. She also tiled all her kitchen backsplashes without any help and tiled her bathroom floor too. The man who installed my kitchen was really amazed by what a good job she had done, and offered her a job. lol

I'd love to win this book.

  16. Like Amy who bucked the system and had a career, I admire the women who fought their way to become doctors when the men tried to shoulder them out. The conviction they had for their calling must have been incredibly strong to put up with the cruel whispers and condemning looks. These string women helped pave the way for women not only into the medical field, but also to take that first step to it being acceptable to work a man's job. So well done Vicky choosing to give your heroine a career!

  17. that would be my ex-sister-in-law - she divorced my idiot brother and then went full force into the work force after being a stay-at-home-mom then working part times when all the kids were in school. She helped me take care of my father as he got older, even tho she divorced my brother, she didn't divorce us.

  20. Hi Mary and Vicky -

Sorry I couldn't get by yesterday but I had problems with my computer!

The woman I most admire was my maternal Grandmother who after she lost my Grandfather raised her 4 daughters with dignity and courage. My Gramma Bingham was the one who taught me how to bake, sew and also to play cards!

My mother who was born in 1914 was the oldest and when I was young told me the story of how my Grandmother had begun taking in sewing when my Grandfather was sick. She ended up being a seamstress full time after he passed. Her widowed mother also lived with them in a small town in up-state New York. She finally was able to purchase a used treadle sewing machine which she passed onto my oldest sister and of course she taught my sisters and I how to sew on it!

My grandmother taught me how to appreciate the small things in life and once told me that no matter how bad things may see at times to always look for the small miracles that occur all around us. The neighbor who invites you for a cup of tea, the sunshine outside and the birds that sing for you. She taught us that the family is the most important thing and to treasure each other everyday.

All these years later my favorite thing whe gave me was a trivet I have in my kitchen on the wall that says "No matter where I serve my guests they seem to like my kitchen best! Thanks Gramma for all the wonderful cookies you made for me while I sat in the kitchen with you!
