Aloha to Starr Ambrose and SILVER SPARKS

Today I spotlight Starr Ambrose's SILVER SPARKS.  It is a contemporary romance set in a Colorado resort town. Starr is an author new to me ... so let's play six degrees of separation:

1.  On this day in 1885, a drug store in Waco, Texas served a new drink, Dr. Pepper, becoming the first soft drink in the US (preceding Coca Cola by a year).

2.  Dr. Pepper is my husband's "stage name" in his barbershop quartet, Funny Bones.

3.  My husband first sang barbershop with Pike's Peak Chapter in Colorado Springs.

4.  Colorado grew from its silver rush.  Its mining communities have morphed into resort towns.

5.  SILVER SPARKS is a new contemporary romance from Starr Ambrose set in a Colorado resort town.    SILVER SPARKS is laced with action, adventure, and laughter.

6.  From Starr's bio, "You’ve gotta love a job you can do in your jammies with a bowl of popcorn beside you!"

Perhaps Starr would like a Dr. Pepper with her popcorn!

Also from her bio,

I write romance novels because I love to read them! For years I dismissed them as junk-food literature (shows how stupid I was – who doesn’t like junk food?) until I finally paid attention and discovered the truth – romance novels are about strong, passionate women who are smart and resourceful. Best of all, they often have that most important survival tool—a wicked sense of humor. Those were the heroines worth writing about!

Starr delivers just that - a passionate heroine who employs humor to survive a "stalker" with some help from a hunky hero in SILVER SPARKS:

The Larkin sisters are used to hearing whispers behind their backs. Being raised by hippie parents in the small resort town of Barringer’s Pass, Colorado, they were always considered oddballs, and for a while, they did everything they could to earn the name. But now, older and wiser, they're discovering that it's not so great to be the wild child, and are struggling to earn a new place for themselves in town.

When Maggie Larkin resists the come-ons of a sleazy actor in town to shoot a film, she pisses off more than a pretty boy and his manager. Turns out that Rafe DeLuca isn't just a movie star...he's possibly a killer, and Maggie's landed herself in more trouble than she could imagine. Enter Cal Drummond, cop extraordinaire, who's been trailing DeLuca himself for weeks, convinced that his recently murdered sister is one of Rafe's victims. He's determined not to let another woman be victimized by the dangerous Rafe, and if that means sticking like glue to Maggie, so be it.

Maggie and Cal seem like perfect opposites, but as we all know...opposites attract!

  3. I love sweet and sour! My favorite opposite attract couple is one of my friends and her husband. Two totally opposite people who have been married for over 30 years.

  4. Thanks for the giveaway.

Opposites do attract, but I'm not convinced the attraction lasts. But, I'll opt for Oscar and Elfrida in Rosamunde Pilcher's Winter Solstice--he shy and retiring and she effervescent.

  5. Thanks for that great question, Kim! I can't wait to read all the responses.

Opposites are fun to write. My husband and I fall into that category. Get this - I'm the practical one, and he's the romantic, the one who remembers anniversaries and does thoughtful things for no reason. And I'll spill a big secret here - I know several romance authors who say the same thing about their marriages!

  6. One of my favorite couples is Tony & Heather from "Tall Tales & Wedding Veils" by Jane Graves. Tony is a a real charmer. He is fun to be around & he knows how to have a good time. Heather is very dependable & serious-minded CPA. Those two may seem completely incompatible, if not for the fact that they complement each other.

  7. This is a really funny question because ever since I met my hubby we have been joking about how opposite we are from one another. We are opposite in everything from foods we like to the music we listen to and the movies we watch. But we've lasted 21 years so I guess opposites really do attract.

  8. I thing "opposite attracts" story line has so much potential for humor, angst, and passion!

A college friend once told me that opposites work best in a relationship after she dated a guy who took just as long as she did to get ready for a date. He also took as much as she on a trip. After that, she determined that she didn't need to date herself!

  10. Hmm...opposites...shave ice and a hot day! My hubby and I have areas where we are completely opposite (I would prefer to read while he is addicted to television shows, he reads recipes and measures things while I just throw things in the pot and see what happens, etc.) but fortunately that is leavened by the areas where we are alike (professions, lifestyle choices)! Thanks for introducing another intriguing author.

  11. I really can't think of one but I think that even if opposite attract, it won't last. You need to have a lot in common to make things work.

  12. Well, Hubby and I are alike in some ways, but we're opposites in a whole lot more.

I love your columns, Kim! And Starr is right--Who doesn't like junk food? (Except for my Hubby!)

  13. My husband and I are opposites too. It's been 42 years but they haven't been calm ones lol.

  14. From TV right now I really like Fritz and Brenda (The Closer); Fiona and Michael (Burn Notice); Castle and Beckett (Castle). From books there are too many to even think about but if you ever read Barbara Parker's series Anthony Quintana and Gail Connor would rock the world they were that hot of a couple.

  15. Brain Freeze! Totally unable to think of opposites.

  18. Too funny! Yep, my favorite couple: Hubs and I! We couldn't be more opposite and plenty of people said it wouldn't last. 31+ years later, we're still going strong!

    Me and Hubs:
City Girl - Small Town Boy
    North - South
    Rock n Roll - Country
