When I was asked to be part TURNING UP THE HEAT TOUR with Cara Elliott and her new book TOO WICKED TO WED (click the link to find the review), and Lilli Feisty DELICIOUSLY SINFUL (click the link to find the review), I was thrilled and honored. I am a fan of both these authors and could not wait to get their books read, reviewed and my questions answered. This is a wonderful mix of Contemporary and Historical Romance which a favorite of mine because I love to mix up the genres. I was able to ask questions of both authors so let get to that part first….
From the desk of Cara Elliott
You have traveled extensively (for research) and I wondered if you have ever been to a place that exceeded your expectations? I’ve been to a lot of really fabulous places, and it’s always exciting to soak in the sights, the ambiance, and the history of an area. That said, Wales and Tuscany were even more amazing than I imagined. There is something about both places that is really magical—the stunning beauty, the rich sense of the past wherever you look, the warmth of the people and their love of the land. I can’t wait to go back!
When you look out your back door tell me what you see vs. what you would like to see? Oh, LOL! I see a large backyard with more weeds than flowers growing and lots of tall trees that could use some pruning. (I confess that gardening is not one of my strong points, but hey, I like a natural look) I’d like to see the fox that occasionally rambles through the property make a den somewhere out back. I love nature and I enjoy watching the birds and animals who play each day outside the window of my writing room. (The crows are particularly funny with their quorking and hopping.)
Tell me a unique quality about you that if someone knows you would already know about this? I’m pretty persistent—in a good way, I hope! If I set out to do something, I usually stick with it, even if the going gets tough.

Mary, thank you so much for having me on my blog!
Your books are spicy but at the heart of them is a love story - is it a difficult balance making sure both of these items are expressed. Not at all. To me sex is an integral part of any romantic relationship, so the story and the physical aspects of the relationship are always deeply intertwined. I believe when you are with the right partner, that person helps you grow and learn things about yourself. That happens outside as well as inside the bedroom. So for me, the sex scenes are just as important and integral to the story as other scenes.
I really would like to have a super power and wondered if you could have one what would it be? Like Dr. Horrible, I would really like to stop time! I never seem to have enough time to get everything done that needs to get done. Think about it. For example, say I’m on a deadline and I want to go to Hawaii. I could just stop time, fly away for a week, come back and finish up on time. I would also like the ability to transport so I could get to Hawaii.
Your book covers are graphically enchanting do you have any say in the selection? My wonderful publisher, Grand Central Publishing, designs the covers and I love them all!

Absolutely! A touch on the hand or cheek does the trick.
ReplyDeleteSure you can! A touch can do that very easily. Even a smile.

Of course, a small touch, holding a hand, a small hug can go a long way to show affection.
ReplyDeleteFor me it's a smile and a hug.
ReplyDeleteA little hug, a loving touch can and does show affection. Thanks for such a delicously and sinful giveaway.
ReplyDeleteThat's the best way for me to show affection. A simple caress, a squeeze of hand for reassurance or a smile to let them you they make you happy.
ReplyDeleteI do think you can show your affection with a gesture. Sometimes just being near the person is enough to know that they care.
ReplyDeleteAffection can be shown by the squeeze of a hand or a pat on the rear, etc.
ReplyDeletea small swipe the hair back, or touch on the hand
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely: a look, a smile, a touch. Affection ca be shown in many ways.
ReplyDeleteA hug does the trick!
ReplyDeleteThere are so many ways I express my affection to my family from a hug and kiss to listening to them and making their favorite foods.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, a gentle hand on the shoulder, a hug and gentle embrace or gently framing someone's face and kissing their brow. Just any tender and gentle gesture can express your emotions and love. And I think we all need these little gestures from time to time. :)

I tend to be much better at gestures than vocalizing my love. It can be something as innocuous as a pat or a hug or giving a knick-knack that I see and get for a friend or loved one or just trying to lend a helping hand without being asked for it.
ReplyDeleteI think gestures of affection are one of the best ways to show your love because they can often convey how you feel and how much you care more so than just saying it.
