Mary's Musing about Dee Davis and her new A-Tac Book Deep Disclosure

Mary’s Musings about reading, reviewing, and random passing thoughts about books and life.

Kyra Sedgwick is The Closer
First off, we have to talk about the fact that we are two days into September!  Are you kidding me we are about to hit fall and summer is over?  We say it ever year but man where did summer go again.  The Closer is about to wrap up which greatly distresses me and the fact that Kevin Bacon DID NOT play her lawyer come on perfect casting who missed that call.  But I do have a ton of great books that will fill the no TV on Monday night to watch void.

But, right now let’s talk about Book #4 in the non-stop entertaining A-Tac Series by Dee Davis titled Deep Disclosure.  Dee Davis has a BA in Political Science and History, and a Masters Degree in Public Administration (don’t I feel under educated).  During a ten-year career in public relations, she spent three years on the public speaking circuit, edited two newsletters, wrote three award winning public service announcements, did television and radio commercials, starred in the Seven Year Itch, taught college classes, lobbied both the Texas State Legislature and the US Congress, and served as the director of two associations – unbelieveable.

Her highly acclaimed first novel, Everything In Its Time, was published in July 2000. Since then, among others, she’s won the Booksellers Best, Golden Leaf, Texas Gold and Prism awards, and been nominated for the National Readers Choice Award, the Holt and two RT Reviewers Choice Awards. To date, she has sold twenty-one books and four novellas, including the A-Tac Series and Set-Up in SoHo.

Austrian Castle
She’s lived in Austria and traveled in Europe extensively and although she now lives in Manhattan she still calls Texas home (why do all my authors come from Texas – question to ponder later).

Now I have been waiting for Tucker’s story and had no idea how this would play out but man did it play out awesome.  You will remember Tucker as the rescued prisoner who is Drake’s brother.  You don’t remember him – you need to get the rest of these books and read up on these A-Tac men and women they are always fabulous, secretive, and ever so about the rest in clever.  Plus these brothers are all about baseball, beer and trash talking each other which is always entertaining as a mother of 3 boys.

When I was at RWA in NYC this past year Dee Davis walked in the room and my first impression was “wow she is really tall” and then I thought as I always do “can’t one of these people have bad hair?”  when you have like three hairs on your head being surrounded by all this great hair is very depressing.  But Dee was so gracious and I introduced myself and she commented about loving my reviews, which I never get tired of hearing about.  She said I would love this book because Tucker is really good at lying even when he doesn’t want to, but he really wants to in this book because Alexis has melted his heart and he won’t let her get hurt for any reason.

I am proud to announce that Grand Center “Forever” Publishing is giving away one copy of this book (review below).  To be eligible to win please leave a comment about “trust and how quickly do we exchange that with someone else?”  Come back on Sunday - September 4th to see if you have won.  Please remember if you do not come back, you will not know if you won, because I am going to need your address.

REVIEW from Mary Gramlich "The Reading Reviewer"

DEEP DISCLOSURE written by Dee Davis
Book #4 in the A-Tac Series
09/11 - Grand Central Publishing - Mass Market Paperback, 368 pages

If no one knows me, do I still matter to someone?

Living your life hiding in plain sight was stressful and draining for Alexis Markham but she had it perfected after all these years.  She had been running from someone, who lurked somewhere, trying to get back something she has, and yet knows nothing about.  Alexis only knows one fact everyone in her life that she has ever cared about is dead over this unknown item she does not have.  When she survives yet another attempt on her life, her salvation comes to her rescue in the form of Tucker Flynn.  Alexis wants to believe he is on her side but everything she has been taught tells her to keep her guard up and her few possessions close.

Tucker’s story makes sense when he says the words to her but Alexis has his stats run, and even though everything checks out still she is not sure.  She believes he is too good to be true because white knights do not just show up and save you, do they.  Alexis question's how a man can have a connection to her that knows how to shoot, hot-wire a car and keeps her one-step ahead of the force that is behind the intent to kill Alexis.

All these things are true enough because Tucker is part of an elite organization known as A-Tac a secret, fringe group of the government and he knows all about black ops and trying to stay alive just like Alexis.  Tucker and A-Tac have the capabilities to make anything appear to be something it is not and once Tucker gets close to Alexis he discovers he wants to stay there for more than professional reasons.  She is not weak or frail but completely battered and worn down by the life she is forced to lead.  Tucker is determined to be her salvation and in perhaps she can help him out as well.

Alexis knows better than to get comfortable or to relax because that is when another bomb will go off or a body show up bleeding to death on her floor.  She wants to trust Tucker, but can she truly, after all these years think someone may have answers to her questions when the seeds of doubt and the hint of lies are planted.  Alexis runs and tries to escape from this nightmare but again Tucker turns out to be the answer to her prayers and maybe she will believe in fate.  This horror runs very high up and the secrets that come out of the darkness finally make Alexis choose whom she will believe.

I have loved this series from the first book and felt from that point forward that there could never be enough books in this series.  I am grateful that this series continues and with each book, Dee Davis shows how great a scary mind can work!

  1. Love Dee Davis and the A-Tac series!!

I don't trust easily at all. I need to know you for awhile and have a good relationship before there's the possibility of trust.

  2. I haven't read any of the books in this series so I'd be excited to win one and read it.

I don't trust easily at all, it really takes me some time before i trust someone. And even then I hold a little something back.

  3. Congrats to Dee on the new release. I can't wait to read Tucker's story. I hope Drake and Madeline make an appearance in this book. There are some people you meet and right off the bat you know you trust them because you sense that they're genuine.

  6. I have these books in my TBR pile to read. Trust -- I trust people until they do something to have my trust removed from them. Then I will never truly trust that person again.

  7. This sounds like a book I would really like!

I usually trust someone until I'm given a reason not to.

  13. Trust... I guess it kind of depends because I don't trust so easily with something very personal, but otherwise, I do tend to trust others until they really give me a reason not to.

  14. I admit I can be too trusting. I like to see the best in people and give them the benefit of the doubt. However, when it's broken I find trust is not something that can easily be earned. It's hard to trust someone again when they have broken it.

  15. I can be way to trusting, but I'm learning not to. Sounds like a great book, now I have to go back and read the first part of the series to catch up!!
